Elections of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 1998
On 11 October 1998, the fourth election of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan was conducted. 3.358.465 voters participated in voting and it composed 79,18 percent total number of voters included in voter lists (in compliance with of the Law on the elections of the President is required 25 percent turnout to be valid)
2.556.059 or 76,11 percent of voters pailicipated in the elections voted for Mr. Heydar Alirza oghlu Aliyev, one of the six candidates to the presidency of the country. Therefore Mr. Heydar Alirza oghlu Aliyev was reelected the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan according to the second item of the Article 101 of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan with two-third majority of voters participated in the elections. On 15 October 1998. the Central Election Commission summarized the elections of the President. According to the legislation the final documents of the elections were forwarded to the Constitution Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Constitution Court officially declared information on the results of the elections of the President on 16 October 1998. President's inauguration was held on 18 October, in the State Independence Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
