First elections
of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan
on 8 September 1991
First elections of the President of the Republic of
Azerbaijan were conducted on 8 September 1991. Mr. Ayaz
Niyaz oghlu Mutallibov was elected the President of
the Republic of Azerbaijan. 84,4 percent of total number
of voters included in voter lists participated in voting.
98,5 percent of voters voted for and 1,5 percent against.
The first referendum in the Republic or Azerbaijan on
17 March 1991
The first referendum in the Republic or Azerbaijan was
conducted on 17 March 1991. It was on the matter of
survival of the USSR as a federation of republics with
equal rights. Such a question was put in the referendum:
"Do you think the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics
is necessary surviving as a reconstructed federation
of sovereign republics with equal rights and available
to provide a person from every nations with freedom
and rights?" 2.903.797 citizens took part in the
referendum on this matter. 2.709.246 persons or 93,3
percent voted in favor and 169.225 persons or 5,83 percent
voted against.
Referendum to adopt the Constitutional Act of the Supreme
Soviet on State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan
in 1991
On 29 December 1991, referendum was conducted to adopt
the Constitutional Act of the Supreme Soviet on State
Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the question
was "Do you support Constitutional Act adopted
by the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan
on State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan?"
3.751.174 or 95,27 percent of citizens included in voter
lists took part in the referendum. 99,58 percent of
voters voted in favor of the question and 0.2 percent
against.
